Serve them warm for a cozy morning indulgence, or make ahead and enjoy as a delightful dessert – these rolls bring a little warmth and sweetness to any occasion.

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 7 Tbsp (80g) sugar
  • 1 tsp (4g) dry yeast
  • 1 cup (250ml) lukewarm milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 cups (500g) flour
  • 1 tsp (4g) salt

Filling:

  • 1/3 cup (80g) butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (80g) sugar
  • Cinnamon, to taste
  • 1/2 cup (100g) crushed walnuts

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 1 1/4 cups (300g) cream cheese, softened
  • 3 Tbsp milk
  • 1/2 cup (100g) powdered sugar

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in lukewarm milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add the egg, oil, and yeast mixture.
  3. Mix the ingredients until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough should be soft but not sticky. Add a little more flour if necessary.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

  1. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface to a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Spread the cinnamon-sugar butter mixture evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with crushed walnuts.

Step 3: Shape and Bake

  1. Roll the dough tightly from one long end to the other, forming a log.
  2. Slice the log into 12 equal rolls and place them in a greased baking pan, leaving a little space between each roll for expansion.
  3. Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes or until they double in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Step 4: Make the Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, milk, and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  2. Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before spreading the frosting over the top while still warm for a melty, irresistible coating.
